The Hinduja Foundations in India, the United Kingdom and the United States form an integral part of the Hinduja Group. The late Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja (1901–1971), Founder of the Hinduja Group, believed that philanthropy is both an obligation and an honourable reward of business.
He believed charity was more meaningful when it encouraged self-help rather than dependence. This underlying philosophy has pervaded the philanthropic activities of the Hinduja Family ever since the Group founder PD Hinduja decided to set aside a portion of his business profits for health-care, educational charities and other worthy social causes like scarcity relief, poverty alleviation, art and culture and sports.
The Founder and his family have always believed that every human being has a right to education and healthcare. Education also helps further multicultural and interfaith understanding, tolerance and respect between the different people and their faith.
Srichand P Hinduja, Chairman of the Hinduja Group, leads the Foundations. “Our aim”, he says, “is to build bridges between India and the world, between the past and the present, between the generations that are and generations yet to come”.
The Hinduja Foundation, which was set up in Bombay as a Public Charitable Trust in 1968 spearheads the Social Responsibility Initiatives of the Hinduja Family and to some extent Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives of the Hinduja Group Companies in tandem with the Hinduja Foundation, UK, and the Hinduja Foundation, USA.
The Foundations try to achieve these goals by creating socially responsible institutions; working jointly with other institutions of repute and by supporting deserving NGOs working for similar objectives. Its landmark activities and projects include:
Healthcare
Education
Arts, Culture and Interfaith Understanding
Social Welfare
Sports
