Logo: Ashok LeylandEstablished in 1959, Ennore Foundries is the first jobbing foundry in India for the automobile industry. Initially promoted by British Leyland, Ennore Foundries commenced commercial production in 1961. Since then, the intricate castings emerging from its high capacity plant have are used as original equipment by major automobile manufacturers in India.

Ennore Foundries is the largest jobbing foundry in India with production capacity of 48000 MT of grey iron castings (to be increased to 60000 tons by March 2006) and 3000 MT of aluminium gravity die castings. Also, DCU capacity is increased to 24,000 MT.

EFL recently acquired the Ductron castings unit from Ashok Leyland and is upgrading its capacity from 24000 tons to 36000 tons/year by March 2006.
The company is now setting up a green field plant near Chennai with a capacity of 50000 tons /annum which will go on stream by mid 2007.
With major global manufacturers of cars, trucks and tractors making India their sourcing hub for engine blocks EFL is poised for a big leap into the export market.

EFL makes iron and aluminium gravity die castings for automobiles, industrial engines, tractors, power generation units and other off-highway applications. The product range is between 10 kg and 300 kg in iron and one kg to 16 kg in aluminium gravity die castings and includes cylinder block, cylinder head, flywheel, flywheel housing, gear box casing and clutch housing.
The Foundry’s customer base in India includes Ashok Leyland, Hyundai Motor India, Maruti Suzuki, Hindustan Motors, Simpson & Co., Mahindra & Mahindra, Caterpillar and Swaraj Mazda. It enjoys majority share with most of its customers. So much so that it is part of every one out of three vehicles produced in India.

Four decades of expertise and experience in producing intricate castings like Cylinder Block and Cylinder head with superior metallurgical properties makes Ennore Foundry a choice for discerning customers.

Capability to adapt to emerging trends and absorb new technology, competent engineering skills and expertise, a strong metallurgy base, uncompromising quality consciousness, have all contributed to create a sound and solid base for Ennore Foundries in the Industry.

The Foundry has the capacity to make grey iron in tensile strength range of 150, 200 and 250 n/mm2 adhering to BSS 152 specification. In aluminium gravity die casting, it can produce in a wide range of specification: LM2, LM4, LM9, LM16, AC4C and AC4B with / without heat treatment.

Ennore Foundries employs the latest pattern making technology, complete with CNC machines and CAD / CAM, Pro-E work stations. It uses computer simulation for the metal flow process, ensuring efficiency in the manufacture of premium quality patterns and dies. It also has melting facilities with induction furnaces and two high pressure moulding lines and a “no bake” hand moulding line.

Apart from developing and adapting the latest foundry processes and technology, the modern R&D center carries out research and development work in methods and process, sand systems and binders, besides allied areas such as sand reclamation, foundry equipment, tools and tackles and computer applications.

In recognition of the Foundry’s commitment to quality, it has received the ISO 9001 and QS 9000 and ISO 14000 certifications.
