Ashok Leyland

For over six decades, Ashok Leyland has been in the business of moving people and goods, touching millions across several countries worldwide. A US $ 2.5 billion Company, Ashok Leyland is one of the largest commercial vehicle manufacturers in India.

Ashok Leyland buses carry over 70 million passengers every day. Close to 700,000 of the Company's vehicles keep the wheels of economies turning and, with nearly 70,000 Stallion vehicles in use, Ashok Leyland is also the largest supplier of logistics vehicles to the Indian Army. The Company's product range spans from 2.5T Gross Vehicle Weight to 49T Gross Trailer Weight in trucks and from 18 seaters to 80 seaters in buses, apart from a host of special application vehicles and diesel engines for industrial, marine and genset applications. These are manufactured from seven facilities located across India with an annual installed capacity of 150,000 vehicles.

Over time, the Company has pioneered concepts that have re-defined the commercial vehicle space in India: a tribute both to its robust inherent R&D capabilities as well as the strength of strategic alliances forged with global technology leaders: like Nissan Motor Company (Japan) for Light Commercial Vehicles, John Deere (USA) for construction equipment, Continental AG (Germany) for automotive Infotronics and the Alteams Group, Finland, for high pressure die casting extruded aluminum components.

Overseas, the acquisition of controlling stakes in Optare plc, a well-known bus maker in the UK, has given new impetus to the Company's global bus strategy while AVIA Ashok Leyland Motors represents its beachhead in Europe where Ashok Leyland has also established Albonair GmbH for the development of clean and green technologies.
